Well, it's getting closer and closer - A's return from Townsville AND our holiday in Tasmania !!!! Only 3 sleeps until A is home and then another 3 sleeps until we leave.
We have booked some of our accommodation - first night in Launceston at Village Family Motor Inn which does sound a little dodgy but looks OK for one night. They do have electric blankets which may or may not be a requirement depending on how my hot flushes are going !!!! Then on Tuesday we drive through to Cradle Mountain and spend the night at Cradle Mountain Chateau which includes a spa bath and free breakfast (although I know there is no such thing as a free breakfast because it is actually included in the price of the room !!!) the next day. I don't know if I want it to snow or not - I had all the right gear for snow in NZ but having put on so much weight, none of it fits so I am having to make do with what I have. I guess at the end of the day, if I am cold, I will just have to buy something from somewhere local !!!
From there we drive through to Strahan where we are staying at Driftwood Strahan Villas with a private patio (although it will probably be too cold to sit outside !!!) and a spa bath (clearly we were feeling very flush the night we made all these bookings !!!!) for 2 nights and going on the river cruise on the day in between. Apparently the road from Strahan through to Hobart is very windy and very picturesque so we don't want to be driving it in the dark after having been on the cruise all day.
We get into Hobart on Friday, in time for the Salamanca markets on Saturday. We are staying at St Ives Motel (which doesn't have a spa :( but does have free wi-fi and satellite channels) and have booked in for 4 nights at this stage. There is so much to see and do in Hobart, or using Hobart as our base, that we haven't booked accommodation any further than this because we may land up staying another night or two. Accommodation from here on with be on and as and when we find where we are and what is available. Hopefully I will be able to deal with this as well as I did in NZ. Being the queen of organisation when it comes to where I am going to sleep, I am not too keen on waking up in the morning not knowing where I am staying that night !!!
From there we are looking at driving up the east coast, probably as far as St Helens and then across to Launceston. From there we want to take, what looks like a teeny tiny road that goes down the middle of Tasmania to Melton Mowbray, then join the 1 back up to Launceston, where, depending on how much time we have, we will spend a few days with that as our base before we leave to come home again.
And, because it's Tuesday, I'm linking in with the lovely Jess from Essentially Jess for #IBOT.
Have the best day !
If there is anyone from Tasmania or who has been to Tasmania
and can recommend things to see or places to stay,
please would you leave a comment or mail me
with anything that you think would be good to see.

Congrats on the weight loss!! That's an amazing result. And YAY for Tasmania!
ReplyDeleteLeanne @ Deep Fried Fruit
Thanks Leanne !!
DeleteHave a really great trip - tweet some pics so we can be jealous. (Also your quote is perfect for me, with my thinking about when things don't go your way, everything seems to go worse)
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be trying to tweet some photos - from what I have heard there won't be a shortage of things to photograph !!!
DeleteAnd congrats on the weight loss, but your pending trip more exciting...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree !!!!
DeleteI meant more exciting to me, so I forgot to mention it...now I've commented 3 times, like an idiot....(I'm like a dog - the mere mention of travel, my ears prick up, and everything else is blah, blah, blah, Tasmania...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not an idiot - a fun friend is how I see you !!!
Delete(last one, promise - that's from that Gary Larson card which I now realise everyone will be too young to remember)
ReplyDeleteNot too young here Lydia, love Gary Larson!
DeleteMe too - I LOVE The Far Side !!
DeleteWell done on the weight loss. I am so glad the dietician could help you and I hope you're able to keep it up on holidays, though I know how very hard that can be! Your holiday sounds fantastic. Tassie is on our list of must-see places! Can't wait to read all about it! xo Aroha
ReplyDeleteThank you ! I don't know how we are going to go on holiday because everyone keeps telling me about how good all the food is down there !!! Thankfully I don't eat cheese or drink wine or beer so I may be a little bit safe !!
DeleteWow...I am a tad envious and a lot excited for you! I've always wanted to go to Tasmania... It's on the list. Well still but now Adelaide and Dallas seem to have pushed in front!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading more about your adventures and journey to being you. xxXOoo
Thanks Carmen !! It's funny how other places often seem to take over !!!! Our next trip was supposed to be with my folks to Adelaide and doing the great ocean road - maybe next time !!!!
DeleteCongrats on the weight loss!! Job well done, good luck with it. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jodi !
DeleteI'm sure you will love Tassie! It's a short drive to pretty much everywhere down there so in that amount of time you will see heaps. You'll have to tell me if you find Taswegians as patriotic about there state as we did - Didn't you know everything is better is Tasmania :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun - I can't wait to here all about it.
Well.. it is true.. ;)
DeleteThanks L. I have to be honest and say I am getting very excited now - 5 sleeps to go !!
DeleteI have never been to Tassie, but know many who have and everyone has loved it. It seems so picturesque. Can't wait to see all of your pics. Congrats on the weight loss too :) Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Renee - I am sure we will love it if we follow the pattern of everyone we have spoken to !!!
DeleteI have only been to Tasmania once, I remember amazing food, the berries, the cheese, the cheese, the wine! It truely is a foodies delight! Kind of sucks if you are trying to lose weight. My best tip for enjoying holidays without extra kilos is to go halves with every treat! Double the deliciousness and no guilt! I hope that you have the best time! Well done on your weight loss so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that tip - going halves sounds like it will definitely be the way to go for us.
DeleteWell done on the weight loss- it's a tough balance being mindful and aware but not obsessed. I found dropping wheat by firstly 100%, now about 80% has made the biggest difference to me. I love Tasmania and have not seen anywhere near enough of it (mostly just Hobart while Mr works). Cradle Mountain and Strahan (via steam train) are high on the list for me. #teamIBOT
ReplyDeleteYou are right - it's gettng the balance between being mindful and not obsessed that is the key !!
DeleteI have been having a little bit of milk in my porridge in the mornings and that seems to be OK for me - I'm sure 1/2C every couple of days will be OK.
Congratulations on the 4.6kgs!
ReplyDeleteThe holiday sounds fabulous. Cant wait for the pics, it is the one state in Australia that I have yet to visit
Becc
Thanks Becc - will be posting pics when I can.
DeleteI have the best memories of a driving holiday in Tassie. Congrats on the weight loss- it's such a slooooooow road...
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo - I know - how come it goes on so quickly and comes off so slowly ??????????????????
DeleteThat's an awesome weight loss L!! Your holiday sounds like it's going to be so fabulous, and definitely good about the electric blanket, can't live without mine :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear all about the Salamanca markets. Travel safely xx
Thanks Lisa - I used to have to have an electric blanket but with hot flushes and night sweats I haven't needed one this year !!!!
DeleteI am so looking forward to the Salamanca markets - amongst everything else !!
Umm do you need anyone to carry your bags when you are away?? I'd LOVE to have all those spa baths! And a big congrats on the weight loss, I'm with you, slow and steady is so bloody hard right?! Have a fun and safe trip away xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer - we have wheels on our cases but if they break, you'll be high on the list of people I call to help carry !!!! LOL
DeleteYou are right - slow and steady is so bloody hard !
Way to go on the loss. You'll be fine while you're away. You're more aware and you'll be having lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to take plenty of photos.
Thanks Lee-Anne - will definitely be taking photos and having heaps of fun !
DeleteSuper awesome on the loss, and how exciting to be going on holiday in less than a week, add me to the I'm jealous list. Sounds like you will have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteleaving some fairy wishes and butterfly kisses from #teamIBOT
Thanks Rhianna - I am so looking forward to the break - I'm sure we are going to have a fantastic time !
DeleteCongrats on the weight loss! That is awesome! Sophie from team IBOT lives in Tassie, I'm sure she would have a few suggestions. I love MONA, you must visit x
ReplyDeleteThanks Josefa - that is on our list of things to see when we are in Hobart (even though A isn't that keen - I am !!!)
DeleteGreat result on the weight loss. Slow and Steady wins the race hey.
ReplyDeleteWell you know I am in Tassie.. your planned part of the trip sounds just brilliant. We have never been to the West Coast but plan on going next year when the American Grandparents make their annual visit.
East Coast is just gorgeous though, you will need a few days slowly going up there. Plus Port Arthur to start that journey.
I'm so excited for you!! You are going to LOVE it here. LOVE LOVE it.
You will be cold though... just saying.
Thanks Sophie - once we leave Hobart we still have another 9 days to do up the east coast - back to Launceston and then down the middle through to Bothwell before going back up to Launceston. Well that is the sort of plan at the moment - all subject to change on a whim !!
DeleteThanks for the tip about the weather - am now worried I don't have enough warm clothes and am thinking a shopping spree is on the cards this weekend !!!
Well done on the weight loss!! Hang in there, lose it slow & it's more likely to stay off. Hope you have a fabulous time away, I'm very jealous as I've always wanted to go to Tasmania. Can't wait to hear all about it xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Nee - I know it is better to lose it slowly BUT I WANT IT OFF NOW !!!! LOL
DeleteI have been to Tassie three times now. It is a great place and so geared up for tourism. Each time we have found that there are so many things to do and see on each road that you take. My only advice, allow hours for your driving from one place to the next as there are so many stops that you can make along the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that Jacana - it's always good to have these little tips about travelling to make sure we make the most of the time we are there.
DeleteHave a great time. My parents went to Tassie last year and they raved about it.
ReplyDeleteThank you - I think it's going to be a great break !
DeleteYou will have an awesome time I am sure, and fantastic on the weight loss awesome result :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jackie - take care of yourself !!!
DeleteI want to hear it all, hoping to go later in the year or between Xmas and New Years. xxx Rae
ReplyDeleteWill be telling you all about it when we get back !
DeleteI'd love to travel to Tasmania. It just looks so beautiful and has such a rich history. Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have seen it is so picturesque - I can't wait to get there !
DeleteCongratulations on the weight loss!!
ReplyDeleteI went to Tasmania when I was a teenager and just loved it so much.
Visit as many forests as you can!!
Bruny island was incredible too XX
Thanks Rebecca - will add Bruny Island to the list. I will make sure our good walking shoes are in the suitcase !
DeleteCongrats on the weight loss! I've never been to Tassie either I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteThanks - have the best day !
DeleteMe
Love Tassie - you'll have a ball. The West Coast is pretty rugged and yes the road is very windy, not ideal to do the Cadbury Chocolate Factory tour before driving to Strahan, believe me, I know, Miss 16 (who was only 4 at the time) was very sick!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to Port Arthur? I think that's a must do. Ross is a pretty town too, very historic. The beaches on the east and north are lovely mind you it'll be cold!
In Launceston you've got to see Cataract Gorge, and there's this cool park in the middle of town with a fenced off island in the middle of a lake with all these monkeys on it! Or at least there was when I was last there in 2001 ...
Thanks for these Janet !! I think we will both be steering clear of the Chocolate Factory - it can mean only one thing - trouble getting my pants to fit at the end of the holiday!!!!
DeleteYes, Port Arthur is on our list of things to see. Haven't heard of Ross but will put that down.
I am off to see if I can get a warm jacket after work / this weekend otherwise I think I am going to be miserable in the cold there.
Have also made a note of Cataract Gorge - will see if we can find it.
Thanks again for these places - really appreciate it !
Have the best weekend !
Me
Wow! Great news about losing 4.6kg!
ReplyDeleteI love Tasmania! Hubby and I went a few years ago and did the tour by car. Are you planning to go to Freycinet Bay? It's so beautiful there, on the east coast of Tasmania.
Have a great trip!
