Man I Hate Detoxing !

On Tuesday I posted about making decisions.  Last night I made one of them - to join the LEANing Challenge with We Are Slimming.  I had already paid my money but then, after getting the manual and menu plan, went all sooki and didn't know if I would do it.

I had three days of L&E this week anyway, so thought I would give myself a couple of days to look at the manual and decide.  Well, I didn't so much read the manual and skim through it, mainly because I find manuals boring to read and picked up bits and pieces about what I could and couldn't eat.

So, last night being the last day of L&E, I figure I am going to either have to go and do some serious food shopping or else it was going to be another day that I fluffed around eating whatever I could lay my hands on.    It was K's turn to make dinner so as soon as I got home from work we made a shopping list (for me and for her because heaven forbid she should actually have got all the ingredients for dinner before 6pm on the night she is going to cook !!!) and off we went.  Well $140 and 4 grocery packets later we were home.  She asked a gazillion questions about how to make the chicken with mushroom and asparagus sauce that she had chosen to make inbetween us getting home and me dashing off to get de-haired !

Her recipe says 20 mins prep and 25 mins cooking time.  I get home just over an hour later and she is still getting it together to go into the oven !!!!  But, once it was done and we ate, it was actually bloody nice - probably her best effort so far.

I had a quick look at the menu plan for today - some mexican taco for breakfast - well that ain't going to happen now is it ?  No way I am getting up earlier than 6am to bloody cook breakfast.  So I made do with a glass of OJ and a handful of nuts !

I was a little better prepared (although not by much) for lunch and had prawns and avo/tomatoe.  I nearly had a heart attack - $2,50 for an avo - and they recommend an avo / nuts every day (for the good fats of course !!!)  Anyway, it was actually quite tasty although I only ate half of it - thought that at that price I had better ration myself with how much avo I eat - I can quite easily sit down and eat a whole avo with a little bit of salt and a sprinkling of pepper !

For dinner we had a really nice dish called paleo pancit - (have no idea what the name means except that a paleo diet is one using raw food - I think - don't quote me on it in case you get sued for wrong information !!!).  I changed it slightly as it should have had chicken, pork loin and shrimps - but we only used chicken as the others were too expensive !!!  With grated carrot, cabbage and onion.  Throw in some crushed garlic, soy sauce, chicken stock and fish sauce - bloody nice it was and it made an absolute mountain of food.  So I have frozen it for another 3 meals each for K and I - gotta love things you can take out the freezer and don't have to cook from scratch every night !!!  Oh yes, and start it all off with some coconut oil !

This eating plan is pretty much -  protein, non-starchy veg, some fruit and fats - no dairy and no wheat / carbs.  Drinking is water - tea - coffee - with almond / coconut milk if you want.  Well I don't drink tea or coffee and while I try to drink at least 1L of water a day (Mon-Fri anyway) my drink of choice is Pepsi Max - well not for the next 30 days it isn't.  My drink of choice is now WATER !!!!!!  I know I can do it because I have done it before but man it is so bloody hard.

I started with a headache at about 11.30 this morning and it has gotten progressively worse over the course of the rest of the day.  Detox - I HATE YOU !!!!  Of course, if I didn't feed my body with all the cr*p that I have done in the past, I wouldn't have picked up the weight and I wouldn't be trying to lean my body down so I do realise that I am totally responsible for having to do the detox - it just doesn't make it easier.

I was all set to run this evening after work but by the time I got home there was no ways I could manage to get out there and run - not feeling the way I did.  So instead I got started on dinner because the plan was to make the breakfast muffins tonight and, as they freeze well, just heat them up tomorrow morning.  Well after doing dinner there was no way I was going to start all over again making egg and bacon muffin thingies so change of menu and we are having coconut smoothies for breakfast instead.  On Saturday I will make the muffins and freeze them to be used during the week.  I will also  be making some frittatas to freeze and use during the week.  I just need to be organised and I can do this provided I can get rid of this bloody headache before then otherwise I am going to be swanning around on the couch feeling very sorry for myself and watching the World Series games that we will have taped during this week !!

And, because detoxing isn't bad enough, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning !  I HATE the dentist (probably more than the detox !!!) and have put off going for more years than I care to think about but, given this is the year I am taking myself out of my comfort zones and starting to take care of me, I thought a check-up was in order.

    1. LOL - of course I can. I have another appointment in two weeks to fix a cracked tooth - that one can be for you!!!
      Headache is still here although not quite as bad as yesterday - having said that it is still early in the day so hopefully it won't get too bad. Find it really difficult to exercise when my head is thumping !!

    1. That's the plan - so when summer comes around I can put my togs on without wanting to run and hide !!!
      That's exactly why I haven't been to the dentist for so long - didn't like the one who bought the practice when our old dentist retired. Now K has found one just down the road from where we live and he was just lovely so am going to send A there as well as he needs heaps of work on his teeth :(

  3. I'd like to do a detox, but it all seems like so much work! And I know it will be good for you in the long run, and I DO admire those who stick to the plan, but all that extra work/prep/shopping........I might just have to find another way!! I hope you make it through!

  4. Detoxing is the worst, and I agree, there is nothing better than making a meal that you can then put some in the freezer for later. It's like takeaway but without the expense of hassle of having to go get it!

    1. LOL not only did we put in the freezer but we had enough for lunch today as well - it was really delicious !!!
      Good point about it being like takeaway except cheaper and less hassle - never thought of it like that before.

  5. Oh, I am so stabby when I try to detox. Mine is to eat only veggies, fruits and no carbs for 3 days. Haven't done it in a while. I might wait a little bit when I'm not so tired. Because man, I get sooooo lethargic !

    1. LOL Anne - it is good if you can stick it out because it does clear your body of toxins. Luckily the headache was only 1.5 days - the last time I did it it lasted for 6-7days. Feeling so good now so glad I did stick it out.

  8. Best of Luck with the detox, you can do it! I am trying so hard with the water having cut out the soft drinks (my preference was coke and waaaay too much of it!) I can manage a litre of water each day sometimes more but need something to break it up and that's coffee. Eating healthily, I have found does take a lot more prep and organisation, when I am not prepared I am more inclined to grab for an easy not-so-healthy fix or nothing at all (not sure which is worse!) have the best weekend, the headaches should ease soon and you should be feeling on top of the world! x

    1. THank you S !!! YOu are right - I do feel so much better for having gone through it. The quick on the go food is definitely less healthy but so much easier to organise - why oh why can't healthy food be like that ????
      My problem is that I don't drink tea or coffee so really get bored drinking only water if I don't have any soft drinks. Oh well - all in the name of a healthier me !!

  9. Nothing worse than detoxing from PepsiMax/Diet Coke. But I'm thankfully free of it (and I had a 2 litre habit a day at one stage)

    1. I know ! The problem is I don't drink tea or coffee and so get so bored with water - it's not that I like it that much to start with anyway !!!! I only drink it because I know I need to and it is good for me !

  10. ohhhh girl! i have never tried a detox. i'm sure i need to. got a sugar thing going on right now that's out of control again. baked goods.
    i quit soda 20 yrs ago and cannot stand it now, just even a sip curls my toes, tastes like chemicals to me.

    1. LOL - I did find after the last detox that I did that soda tasted really strange but I perservered with drinking it and got the taste back !!!!!! Basically because aside from water and a glass of OJ in the morning, I don't drink anything else !!!

  11. Hello, oops am drinking a coffee as I read this. Sounds ike you are determined and will keep up the healhy eats. freezinf is definitely the way to go. hope you dont get too tired with it, but then maybe that shows its working

    1. Thank Seana - I was tired the first couple of days but now I feel like I have so much more energy. I do know that eating like this does make me feel so much better than the sugar/carbs but it is so much more to organise each day / night !!!
      Coffee is one of the things they let you drink - black ! Tea, coffee, water or sparkling water.

  12. I've always wanted to detox but it's never the right time, I'm always either breastfeeding, pregnant, or bingeing because I'm not breastfeeding or pregnant hahaha.

  13. Good luck with your detox. You sound very motivated.
    Same thing happened to me with my Dentist. He retired and I haven't been for so long. It is hard to get confidence in a new one. Glad you have found a nice one close to home. Good luck x

      It's hard when you don't like your dentist - you know you are at his mercy and he can inflict so much pain if he isn't careful !

  14. Good luck with the detox - looking forward to learning about how it works for you. I tried a 3 day cleanse and the hardest part was no coffee, plus I learned I hat coconut milk which they serve in the nut with a straw. No desert island for me.....

    1. The detox went well - only had a headache for the first 1.5 days and then it settled down - nothing like the 6-7 days I had the last time I did it ! For me, no coffee is fine as I don't drink it and I have found that I quite like the coconut milk - don't know that I could drink it by itself but in smoothies it is great. Am loving cooking with coconut oil !!!

    1. LOL - sometimes I think the longer you do something the easier it becomes !!!! With this eating plan I really just need to be organised and have meals planned instead of doing the get home from work at 5pm and think - wonder what we should have for dinner that I normally do !!!

Thansk Chris - I have found L&E to be good because of their portion sizes and the fact that everything that you need is in one packet so I can grab my breakfast and lunch from the fridge and the freezer and head off without having to think about what I need to buy or prepare or get ready or anything else - it really is a good way to lose weight. I am just trying a new eating plan which makes me feel a whole lot healthier and gives me more energy - like paleo eating only not quite !
