A Great Place


Linking in with Stacey-Lee from GetOnWithItAlready - what place are you in right now ?  Not physically - but emotionally and mentally ?  Are you where you want to be ?  Are you close to where you want to be ? Or is where you want to be not even on the horizon for you ?

I didn't realise just how directionless (I think that is the word I am looking for) I was until I looked back over the past few months and realised that apart from a couple of events and a holiday to NZ, I really was just marking time.  No concrete goals to aim for.  Just marking time.

I was thinking about myself recently and realised that now I have direction - I have goals I want to achieve and I am following specific paths to achieve those goals.

1.  I committed to the LEANing Challenge with We Are Slimming
2.  I committed to Tracey's 30/30 challenge for November at Bliss Amongst Chaos
3.  I am involved in research for a book that involves all different areas of my life
4.  I committed to Kate's #operationMOVE for November at katesaysstuff (which I am doing in conjunction with point 2 above)

Looking now I see it is just 4 points - which to my way of thinking previously - was a bit piss-willy - really, all I could come up with was 4 ??????  But now I realise that maybe the smaller the number the more chance I have of achieving them - I tend to be an all or nothing kind of girl so often would tackle a million lots of things at once and then burn out without finishing most of them. 

I can't tell you how different I feel on the LEANing challenge  - no sugar, no wheat, no soft drinks, no dairy and I feel fantastic.  My energy levels are up and I feel so much clearer in myself (not sure that is an expression but that is how I feel !!!).  Yes, it takes a lot of preparation.  Yes, it means I have to be more organised.  Yes, I have to have a plan.  But, between K and I, we are doing it.

My child who is normally a grumble bum about most things that don't revolve around her - has become (for now anyway) a helpful, considerate, thoughtful young adult to have around the house.  She has been amazing - so much so on Wednesday night she came and sat next to me with her computer and said "Let's do a menu plan for next week so we can get the shopping done and we know what meals I'm cooking and which one's you are cooking." - as I said before whoever has swopped out my child, please don't swop her back anytime soon !!!!!

It looks like A might be getting a bit more interested in exercising and eating healthy food.  He has been for a run for me one night and was going to run last night but into our walk he was light-headed and didn't feel well so we walked home and I just went for a run by myself.  I hope that our good habits start to rub off on him - he used to be so fit and healthy.

Next weekend we have Warrior Dash at Kilcoy - I am hoping that it will be just as much fun as The Stampede. Tomorrow we are going op shopping to find clothes and shoes to wear because once you are finished, the bin is really the only place for your clothes / shoes !!

I am choosing to embrace the positives.  I will acknowledge, then let go of the negatives. This is the time for me to look after ME.  It is the time for me to accept that I may not get to be the weight that I think I should be but I can still have a healthy body - one that I nurture and nourish and treat with respect - not only with how I dress / look but how much I exercise and feed it.

I am off to have my next lot of water - have the BEST day that you can and I hope that your weekend brings you whatever it is that you need !

  1. I have reduced my sugar intake by about 99% over the past few months and oh gosh, what a new leash on life. I thought I woke up in the morning craving caffeine, no it was sugar this whole time. The head aches, the crashes. and the the mood swings; it effects us in so many ways. I notice it on the odd occasion my son has processed sugar he is a different kid for the hour following.
    I'd love to never consume it again but it's almost impossible to avoid. But it is the best thing I've ever done and I will never go back.

  2. Proud of you for not drinking soft drink! We don't ever have that stuff in our house but Mike will have some once in a while and would have coke every day probably if he could. I think it's worse for you than chocolate! It's good to have goals. I feel like I have none at the moment and am also directionless. Looking forward to a catch up Sunday. I'm sure you'll inspire me!

    1. The only downside to drinking water is that is gets pretty boring after a while. Am going to have to find something else to have once I start reintroducing foods back in - not sure what, but something.

  3. I think that's a great list! I wouldn't be thinking "it's only 4 things...".

    Of course I'm totally glossing over and ignoring the no sugar thing, because then I would have to feel guilty about the Oreo I'm currently calling breakfast. Ahem.

    I'd love to start running again, but I'd definitely have to train myself up. It's been forever. I think I'd last to the end of my driveway and have to resort to a walk or pretend I was just quickly jogging down to check the mail, and then go straight back inside.

    1. LOL at the Oreo for breakfast - that used to be my breakfast !!! Now it is a coconut milk smoothie or an egg and bacon muffin - not as easy for on the go but I do feel so much better.
      When I started running - I was out walking and then decided to try to run one lamp post. And over a period of time, that one lamp post became two became three until I ran 15kms one Saturday morning. I thought I was going to die but I didn't - I have my online friends cheering me on and I made it.
      I can just picture you running to the end of your drive and then turning around and running home again !

  4. I can't believe the end of the year is around the corner already... I had two major goals this year and both of them are yet to happen... but I started my blog and I'm so proud of it and I just committed to NaNoWrimo which is a great challenge and might give me the opportunity of realising a long life dream! Best of luck with your goals!

  5. Well you're inspiring me! That's awesome that you feel such a difference. TO me, eliminating dairy, sugar, wheat... impossible! But you're starting to make me think about it. Glad to hear it's spreading through the family too x

    1. Thanks Kelly. I thought it was impossible to but with the right menu plans it actually is quite easy. The meals are really tasty and not that complicated to make - K has even made a couple and they have turned out really well.

  6. Wow, inspiring stuff. I recently read Sweet Poison, and have the Quit Plan sitting next to my bed, but I keep putting off the whole healthy/sugar free thing till next week. Despite knowing all the things that are probably contributing to not feeling great, it's still really difficult to take that first step and move out of the existence rut.

    1. Thank you Krystle. It is difficult to take that first step - I joined a group at We Are Slimming because then I knew I had a date that I had to start otherwise I put it off because of someone's birthday or a dinner or going out - there is always an excuse. We were just talking tonight about what we are going to do about food for the weekend away for Warrior Dash - so good that the others are getting involved.

  7. How great is it when you can feel/see progress with something you've put postive energy into!! I've just started swimming lessons 'cause I suck at it and after only 3 lessons I already feel much more confident and it's getting so much easier!!!

    I've been meaning to write my "list" for some time now. You've inspired me to do it!! xx

  9. Those 'only' 4 things are pretty major lifestyle changes and to add anything more would be detrimental to your success.   10. Hi there, what's the Warrior Dash??? Sounds very intruguing?? All the challenges will work together, maybe I will try the LEAN one soon - sounds good.

    1. Warrior Dash is a 5km obstacle course with some events through mud, water, etc - it is GREAT fun (well The Stampede was and we are hoping this one will be too !!!)

  12. You sound so happy and positive! I think keeping goals to a minimum means that you have the greatest chance to achieve them - I wish you well in your health regime and in retaining your "new" daughter!!

Tonight we were discussing what food we could have on the weekend for Warrior Dash - it was so good that it wasn't only me making the decisions on this. She reminded me that we need to sit down and organise the menu plan for next week !!!!!!
