I Know, It's A Process

And I have to be patient but honestly, I. Have. Had. Enough.

Four weeks into having a house on the market and I am totally over it.  Four weeks ago I was the positive one, the one who believed that there were heaps of people out there who would just love to live in our home.

Four weeks ago, I believed that having 60 days to sell our house would be more than enough time.

Four weeks ago, I believed that by the end of February we would be in our new home, planning where we were going to build for my folks.

Four weeks ago, I was naive enough to believe all of the above.

Four weeks on I have come to the realisation that I am no longer that positive.

Four weeks on I have come to the realisation that I don't know if there is anyone who wants to live in our home.

Four weeks on I have come to the realisation that people don't read adverts properly.  Nowhere on the advert is 'Living on water' mentioned or even implied and yet people turn up each week to our open house and leave, disappointed, because it isn't on water.  I guess they thought it was a real bargain at that price on water !!!

Four weeks on I have realised that I am not as patient as I thought I could be.

Four weeks on I just want to pull the pin on the whole thing and get back to living my life like normal instead of living around open houses and wondering about what is going to happen and when we are likely to move.

Four weeks on I don't want my lack of positivity to hinder the process but I am battling to 'keep my chin up' and remember that 'what will be will be' and that 'everything happens for a reason' - right now it all sucks big time and I am feeling miserable.

I know it's a process that has to run it's course but I feel like a petulant toddler who wants to throw a tantrum by lying on the floor and screaming the roof down.

But, because it's Tuesday and it's been forever since I have joined in with the lovely Jess from EssentiallyJess for #IBOT.

Do you have any experience in
selling your home ?
Was it a good or bad experience for you ?
Please let me know I'm not the only one
who gets impatient with things like this.

TFTD : Yesterday is gone.  Tomorrow has not yet come.  We have only today. Let us begin.

  1. I think people don't realize there are houses in your suburb NOT on the water. People be dumb! I'm sorry it's not worked out yet. Selling and buying real estate is the most stressful thing ever. Everything crossed the next person to walk through your front door falls in love and snaps it up. xo

    1. When we bought this house I never expected to move either - I was going to die in this house !!!! Now that circumstances have changed (we no longer pack shelves at night) and the old people aren't getting any younger, I agreed to the move - maybe I should have stuck to my guns about dying in this house !!! LOL

  4. I have no experience in selling a house and I can't imagine how frustrating it must be. I have to admit, this is how I feel about losing weight some times. I hope the perfect family comes along soon for you, nobody should have to live around open houses all the time because nobody should have to keep their house that clean all the time! #teamIBOT

    1. EXACTLY right - keeping it clean and tidy every single day is driving me nuts !! Actually I have started to cheat - if I think nobody is likely to come (because the agent doesn't have a key so he has to phone us to bring someone around) - I pick something that I don't do - but something that isn't big so if he wants to bring someone around after work, it won't take me long to straighten it up / clean it up / tidy it up !!!

  7. Awww I am sorry to hear that selling is so stressful. We looked at doing it last year and I decided to renovate instead. I am sure there is the perfect buying for your home and that you can find another place that is perfect. Stay well xxx

    1. Thanks Eleise - that is part of the problem - we have found another place and have 60 days to sell our place. But, at the end of the day, if we can't sell, we will take it off the market because there will be another house out there that will be suitable.

  8. That does sound stressful. Hang in there. I wish I had some great advice for you but I'm a novice and must be naive too cause all of your expectations sounded pretty reasonable to me :-( All is not lost though, good luck!

Hope the right buyer comes along soon xxx

  10. Selling a house sucks, And it's heart breaking cos you love your house and then no one wants it (or wants it enough, or wants to pay enough).
Horrible experience, but it does eventually all work out in the end....

    1. LOL - you are right - it is heart breaking when people come to see our/your home and don't love it like we/you do. I am feeling better today (I wrote the post yesterday) and am much more positive about it than I have been the past 3 days.

  12. Oh this does not sound like fun at all! I have only built a house - and that was stressful enough! Hope the right buyer with the right price walks through your door very soon! In the mean time, a walk outside near the beach or go ahead and throw that tantrum - just to clear the stress and anxiety of it all!

    1. I think that building is probably more stressful than buying and selling - at least when we build for my folks there won't be deadlines of getting them out of where they live and into the new place - when it is built and ready for them to move in, they can move in.
Maybe a walk down by the Broadwater and a big long scream will be on the cards after work today - thank you !!!

  18. It took months for our first place to sell with a few disappointments along the way but it eventually sold. Our last two sales were much quicker but you can never tell in a given market. I have everything crossed that the perfect buyer will walk through your door sooner rather than later!

I will tell you, it WILL be ok.. You will look back on this in a month, 2 months, 6 months and think, WOW, that happened, but look where we are now.

    1. LOL - thank you Meagan - I am feeling heaps better today and much more positive that this is going to happen for us. We really are very fortunate to be in a positive where we don't have to sell - it would just mean that we wouldn't be able to move and build for the old people in the house that we all fell in love with BUT it doesn't mean it won't happen, it just may not happen in that house.
Thank you for your kind thoughts - have the best day !

  20. Oh Linda I'm so sad to hear that it's being so hard on you. I can't imagine the stress of it, of having to always make it ready for people to look through. I've never had to go through this process but I too would be WELL over it probably by 2 weeks! I hope that the right person sees what an amazing house you have soon. And you know what, I think it's okay to have a big tanty every now and then, it's unrealistic to expect ourselves to be happy and positive all the time, so you have my blessing to have a big pity party for one, it's good for the soul. HUGS lovely and sorry taken so long to get around to IBOT, work, kids pulling books apart and family dramas. En, xxx

  23. Yeah it's exhausting selling houses isn't it? Never an was process. My sister has finally just sold hers after about a year of waiting. But they were interstate and had tenants in being uncooperative so that made it harder, but she was well and truly over it. Hope it sells for you quickly, and at the right price xx

    1. Oh wow - a year of waiting to sell - I definitely don't think I could do that. And selling interstate would be even more difficult. Fingers crossed it sells soon - and yes, definitely at the right price !!

  27. Well, that is what it is. The housing market is fickle and susceptible to turns at the last minute, since it involves more than just a home, but a larger economic situation. In fact, the latter is more impacting here than in any kind of commodity and property, because it is not only quite an effort to clinch a home, it's also an added challenge to wrestle with histories, associations and attachments that entail such real estate. Best you can do is to keep on, and be astute to current trends. It is important at least that you get to know enough to lay down all the alternatives for contingencies.

  28. I had exactly the same thing last year. Everyone telling me my house would sell straight away but it didn't...mine took 4 weeks. I was so frustrated because it was empty at the time and so was not generating any income for me and I was struggling! The advertising was costing me a fortune and in the end I took the first offer that came my way (I did haggle a little) and while it was a fair bit less than what I wanted I was desperate for it to be gone that I accepted... I hope something comes your way..
