Packing and packing and packing

Who would have thought it would take so long to pack up a kitchen ?  I know it's a big kitchen and the kitchen we are moving to is a lot smaller - but that's OK because I have come to realise that the more space you have, the more 'stuff' you have as well.  Lifeline, Red Cross and AWL or whoever else my parent's are dropping our stuff off with, will be smiling from ear to ear because I am being ruthless.  Most of the time.  Except for the vases I had flowers in when I was a child.  Those are staying.

I have to say that it is really cathartic getting rid of stuff - especially because I know that someone else needs it and will actually use it.  While I am excited about having a big pantry, at the rate I'm going, there will be nothing to put in there.

I have left out a couple of pots, the wok and a couple of casserole dishes because we do still need to eat.  What I haven't left out are any cooking utensils - oops !  I have left out the knife set but no spoons or spatulas or egg lifters - oops !  Maybe I should just pack up everything in the kitchen and we live on whatever we can buy in until we move !!!!!

K got home just after lunch on Saturday from baby sitting and helped me heaps - getting stuff from the low cupboards and the high shelves which was great because my back has decided that it doesn't really want to play along anymore.  She had another baby sitting gig at 6.30 and A and I went to the movies to see Last Vegas - what a great movie !  If you want a laugh - this is definitely the movie to see.

Sunday saw me lying with a wheat pack on my back popping panafen plus the whole day BUT I am pleased to report that A has made great in-roads into his shed.  He even threw some stuff away which I am MOST grateful for.  He still has a long way to go but I figure, getting started is definitely a step in the right direction.

After watching the Suns snatch the game from Essendon last Monday night, we decided to book a mini break to Melbourne over Easter to watch them play the Demons on 20th April and then go to the Cats v Hawks game on 21st - now if I could just buy tickets for the game, I would be really happy - as would my in-laws as they have changed their holiday in Melbourne to coincide with us being there and we will go to the games together.  Well my SIL is coming to the Suns game to experience the MCG but she won't be coming to the game the next day - she has no interest in AFL.

This break will be the thing that will get me through the next three weeks because this time, in three weeks, we will already have had 4 sleeps in our new home !!!

Have the best day !

  1. Go you - keep being RUTHLESS! I would love to be ruthless around here. Particularly in regards to Lego. Anyway, enjoy your mini-break and good luck with the rest of the packing. xo

    1. I hope that my ruthlessness doesn't come to bite me on the butt once we are there !!!! Having said that, if I have gotten rid of something we absolutely have to have, at least I can go out and buy something new !!!!!

  2. How exciting! I have a dream that when Miss 5 starts high school we are going to buy a unit and get rid of all our stuff and buy new and on a needs basis only. We have a house full of junk. It must be so cleansing! Hope your back gets better soon and you don't do any further injuries. Have a great day x

    1. What a great plan !!!! I am getting rid of anything daggy that doesn't fit with my new vision - photo frames, plant pots, pictures etc - I have an idea of how I want our new home to look and that is what I am going to work on creating. It is a really good feeling spreading the love of old goods to someone else !!!!
You have a great day too !

    1. LOL -that's the scary bit - the move is going to be upon us before we know it !!! I am hoping to do a bit of packing tonight - depending on how my back holds up. Honestly, I wouldn't want to move if I could help it - I always said I was going to die in this house - clearly that isn't going to happen now but it will be another 15 yrs at least before we move again !!!
      Have the best week !

  6. Good on your for being ruthless. When we moved last May into a much smaller home, I really don't think I was ruthless enough. I'm the kind of person who always thinks 'but what if we'll need it'? Well, it's months down the track and there's a lot of stuff we don't need and I'm preparing myself to have yet another big clean out. I hope your back is on the improve. x

    1. A seems to think that because we will have more room we should keep more stuff but I'm doing my best to dissuade him of that idea !!!! Actually K has been quite helpful with this as well !!
My back is heaps better thank you - long may it continue.
      Have a wonderful week !

  7. I have been so busy trying to find the new normal here with Cohen starting school that I'm sorely behind with everything. So clearly from this post the house has sold? You've found a new home? You're packing and it's imminent? Awesome to hear that A has made inroads into the shed, oh how that must relieve you. Wishing you all the best with the move, you'll have to let me know if you're still going to be local enough for us to have that long overdue coffee.

    1. Hi Lovely Lady - I have been wondering how Cohen was getting on at school !!! I will definitely be local - in fact, I'll be closer than before as we are just out at Maudsland - just about spitting distance from you !!!

  9. Good luck with the move! I agree --- the kitchen is the worst place to pack! So many appliances, dishes, etc and they all need to be packed with extra care! My work is moving soon and our kitchen was difficult to pack as well. I'm glad that Denver office movers will be helping us with the boxes at least. I wouldn't want to have to carry all those heavy boxes in!
