Happy Birthday A !!!!

Today A turns 49 - the last year of his 40's - next year I will be married to someone old enough to qualify as a senior citizen !!!!!!

How did he get so old ?  And how did I get so old, I am only 2 years younger than him ????????

The funny thing is that I don't feel old.

When I was little, I thought anyone who was 20 was old and if you were 50, well you just about had one foot in the grave !

Now that I am 3 years off being 50, it doesn't seem that old anymore !!!!

I was having a twittersation with some friends the other night and the topic of bands came up at a conversation she had at work - apparently she was 2 when the band was big !!!! And, she is terrified of turning 30 (sorry my friend if you are reading this and know I am talking about YOU !!!!) and it was all I could do not to laugh out loud (although my family are getting used to sporadic bursts of 'out loud' laughter from me as I check twitter) - I can't wait to be 50.  I think to be 50 not out would be amazing !

Maybe the fact that I have found only about 10 grey hairs (of which K has pulled 8 of them out - now I guard them and don't let her near them because I wear them as a badge of honour - strange I know !!!) helps because I don't think I look as old as I would have if I had more grey hair.

I have noticed that my body doesn't heal as quickly as it used it, it doesn't recover as quickly as it used to and it doesn't process food/drink like it used to - it is slower in many aspects but it is also more likely to take chances now than it used to be.  Why else would it have said yes to doing The Stampede - and not only doing it but thoroughly enjoying it - so much so that it has signed up for Warrior Dash in November and the 10km Stampede event next year ????

The point of this is that we can't stop the ageing process but we can embrace it and enjoy the experience.  And the saying, you are only as old as you feel is so totally true because there are days when I feel like I am 80, but then there are the days when I feel like I am 20 again.

Linking in with Jess from diaryofasahm for IBOT for the first time !

Have the best day ever and embrace the process because you can't stop it !!!

  3. hahahaha, yes, I'm glad I provided some comic relief!! I know it sounds pretty stupid doesn't it.
Thing is, I will turn 30, it will come and go and I'm hoping I will have the same mind set as you.
But it is true, some days I feel 18, and like I haven't really ever grown up, and then some days I feel 40 ha ha (i know this is sounding rather stupid again)
I think you are amazing, and I think you are only as old as you feel. I find it truly inspiring that you are doing things like Stampede etc, things I myself, dont think I could do.. but I need you guys to push me too! Summers coming and I really would love to be able to wear sleeveless tops without cringing when I catch my reflection...

Love to you this Tuesday xx

    1. LOL Meagan - no it doesn't sound pretty stupid - it is just that we have different priorities in our lives right now ! I am sure that (heaven help me for saying this) when you are my age you will feel differently to what you feel now !!
You're in Melbourne aren't you ? The Stampede is there is October I think - just time to still enter if they have places left !!!! LOL
      Thanks for stopping by !
      Love, hugs and positive energy.

  4. I turn 30 next year and I don't feel it. Wonder what I would be like if I was turning 50. Probably the same way. Hope A has a great birthday.

    1. Thanks Salz - yes, I think none of us really feel as old as we are (except on the days when it all gets too much for us !!!)
Have the best Wednesday and thanks for stopping by. A had a great day and dinner last night was really good.

  5. I think you only get wiser and smarter and enjoy life more as you get older. I had a 6 week old when I turned 30 so it didn't hit me too hard. Turning 34 has really hit me hard, but agree - some days I still feel 20 and don't realise I don't look/act it to a 20 year old! haha! You're such a spritely almost-50! ha ha Great post L, and happy birthday to A!

  7. Returning some comment love! My age constantly baffles me, I'm asked if I'm really 44 inside (I'm just shy of turning 22) as I do not act like a typical 22 year old. Good on you for doing those runs!! It's the best thing to do and it's such a natural way of keeping fit and active, and doesn't take much!! If you believe in your mind you can do it, then your body will follow, our bodies are usually limited to what our minds believe! Good luck in your running adventures!

    1. LOL Kate - yes our bodies are mainly limited by our minds (although my knee may not agree with you !!!) but it is my mind telling my knee that it is all OK and to just run like it is should !
      Have the best day !

We have lots of laughs (and some angst) at what K does that I can remember doing - seems like A isn't all that good at remembering being a 20yr young lady !!!!

  10. I remember being a teen and thinking 30 was oh so ancient, I'm thirty one now and can see how anyone my age would seem so old to someone so young and without responsibility. I don't feel old though (which is good I guess, thirty is just a baby step on the tree of life), I think age really is just a number and it's how you feel that makes all the difference.

    1. Thanks for stopping by - totally right - how you feel makes all the difference !!! In my eyes, 30 is still young - just like 40 and even 50 'really isn't that old' !!!
      Have a great Wednesday !

  11. I'm only 29 and a little apprehensive about leaving this decade behind, but I love how much you grow in wisdom as you get older. Nothing can replace that life experience.

  13. Im associated with a retirement home and I know people in there 60's and 70's that still work hard. Age doesn't seem to slow them down or bother them.

  14. The Mr turned 40 this year, I'm still 2 years off. 40 used to seem old to me, now I'm thinking even 70 doesn't sound old. My mind is letting me down, Mr 5 asked me how old I was the other day and I said 37. I didn't mean to fib to him - it just came out of my mouth without thinking, his dad took great pleasure in reminding me that I am in fact 38. Maybe subconsciously I like 37 - I may stay 37 forever :)
