I Don't Feel Guilty

The other night I was lying in bed and thinking about how I have changed over the past 20 odd years.  Actually, it's probably the last 10-15 yrs that I have really changed but whatever, it's been a while.  Here goes with the list of things I no longer feel guilty about :

- sleeping during the day

- running water to clean a glass and not waiting for a sink full of dishes before washing them

- chopping up veggies and not saving the tops and tails / skins to make some strange concoction, which may or may not, be of use to anyone

- not spending 1/2 hr trying to pick ever single piece of chicken off the carcass

- not believing I am late if I am only 5 mins early

- not making my bed every day

- not washing my sheets every. single. week - it's OK to wash them in a fort-night on occasions

- not opening the post every. single. day

- using the dryer because it makes more sense for me to wash in the evening when I get home from work

- buying good quality food when we can afford it

- planning me time so that I can be the best wife, mother, daughter and friend the rest of the time

- making sure I have some relaxing time most weekends - I do not have to be super busy all the time that I am not at work

- about spending money on myself/my family - we work hard and deserve to spoil ourselves at times.  I don't believe we are frivolous with our money and we don't spend money we don't have.  We save every month and I am really happy with where we are financially in our lives.

- about donating money to those less fortunate than ourselves.  I currently have some loans with Kiva - two have started repaying - it's a great way to help others.

- not doing things the way my parents did

- missing joining in with some blog linkies - I do the best I can with the time I have - sometimes I join in and sometimes I don't - it doesn't mean that I don't think of you guys every day !!

Joining in with Essentially Jess because it is Tuesday and #IBOT - why not pop over and see who else has joined in ?

What do you no longer feel guilty about ?

TFTD : Don't listen to those who tell you exactly what to do.  Listen to those who encourage you to do what you already know in your heart is right.

  1. I love the post- I don't understand people can not get their post every day!!
That one about not doing things the way our parents did is the ultimate - it's so programmed into us - and keeping parents and in laws happy (both who have a different way of doing things) is often problematic because of this...

    1. For sure - it took me years and years to stop feeling guilty because I chose to do things differently to my folks - and to accept that they may or may not accept that I don't do things the same as them !!!

  2. What a fantastic list! I love that you were able to let some of these things go. There area few of things on the list that I share a lack of guilt with, some of which I have never felt guilty for, till I read this and thought maybe I should. Thankfully it was only fleeting though!

  3. Confession - I don't even go to the mail box anymore. It's always bills, bills, bills. No joy in there whatsoever. The husband picks it up when he comes home from work.

    1. I can totally relate to this - K and A normally bring the post in - whoever gets home first - but I hate bills too !!! I try to only open them once a week !!

For sure - the old way isn't necessarily the best / only way.

  6. I LOVE this! Isn't it funny how we set up so many silly rules for ourselves! I relate to many, many points on this list but I think my favourites are not making my bed evey day (it took me YEARS not to think of my mother saying that un-made beds were "slovenly"!) and using the dryer for washing. Like you I wash at night and I'll be damned if I'll battle the cane toads in the backyard to ge the to cloethes line! Life is way too short :)

  7. Great list! I do use the dryer too much, but I wont be guilty about it. I couldn't keep up with the laundry otherwise, things take too long to dry in tassie.

  8. Love it! I am the worst with keeping up with fellow bloggers and social media and constantly feel not-so-great about this. It is nice to know we are not alone with some of the things we feel guilty about, like buying mangoes at $5 each the second the hit the stores :)

    1. I know that feeling - it's all about realising that there is so much time that has to be split between so many tasks - unless you can magic time from somewhere else - in which case, please let me know how as I would love to have more time in my day !!!!
Have the best day and thanks for stopping by.

  11. This is a great post, it's something we could all do with thinking about. I laughed reading the five minutes early one, I am so like that, HATE being late but it's unhealthy, it really is.

Just recently I have stopped feeling guilty about spending money on clothes and stuff for me. I just bought 8 pairs of new knickers - hahahaha! Long overdue,

You would be appalled at how rarely I change sheets. But if you come to stay one day, I promise you will have clean ones.

Funny about buying new knickers - I put it off for ages as well - then decide that if I don't and I am in an accident I will be very embarrassed !!

  17. I never make my bed.. and I have only just a tiny bit of guilt about it. Its funny since we moved in with my parents, and they have very specific house duty gender roles I have started to feel guilty about stuff I didn't care about before. My Mum spent most of last night ironing EVERYTHING, I iron NOTHING, I still don't feel guilty about that!! x Karen #teamIBOT
