A New Year !

Today is a new day.  Today is a new year.  Today is the day that I sit down and make plans - not resolutions - plans, for what I want to achieve this year.

Top of the list - a healthy body (having my first soft drink for over a week is probably not the best way to start but sometimes you just have to give the water a break !!!!).  My plan is to eat healthily, exercise regularly and listen to my body when it talks to me.

I know that no dairy, no sugar, no wheat makes my body function better.

I know that exercising regularly makes my body feel more energised and work better.

I know that listening to my body when it talks to me makes me more aware of how I am treating it and if I am not treating it correctly, it lets me know (in no uncertain terms).

A friend if mine has told me about mindful eating and I plan on making that a habit when I am eating too - getting rid of the mindless eating that I sometimes find myself doing.

I started exercising on 27th December - slowly building up from walking to nearly running the whole way.  This morning I went for a run.  I have been walking / running with A and the dogs - we walk and then he will take both dogs and I will run up and down a few side roads, join up with them, walk a while and then go off running again.  I have been so pleased with how I was doing.  Yesterday morning I went for a (mostly all) run (only walked about 6 light posts) and felt good except for a little twinge in my right hamstring.  I got home and stretched really well and nursed it along (well enough I thought but now I know different !!!).  Drove down to Kyogle yesterday and it seemed to be OK.

This morning I woke up and decided to go for a run - walked to half way through the foot path to the Broadwater and started to run - not even 1km into my run and I could feel my hamstring.  I was so tempted to just suck it up and do a 5km run but then my head got the better of  me and I decided to just look back home.  So a very short run to start the year but, in all honesty, it is better than nothing - not because of the distance, but the mental side of actually getting out there and exercising.

I got home and stretched and am going to spend the rest of the day icing and resting it BECAUSE THIS YEAR I AM GOING TO RUN MORE than I did last year.  I am going to look after my body so that it can do what it is supposed to do - what it is meant to do - properly !!!!

And, because it is a Tuesday, I am linking in with Jess and her new team at #IBOT

(I cannot believe that tomorrow it will be a month since I last blogged - where has the time gone to ?)

  1. Love it! I so wish I could run with the kids when they go for runs. I imagine it would feel awesome to get the blood pumping and the sweat going. Feeling like you are achieving something.

I know I can't run [autoimmune disease], but I am going to make an effort to walk every day. I know that that alone will make a huge difference.

Have an amazing new year hun. I have no doubt that you will be achieving everything you set out to in it.

P.S. I'm being naughty too... I has me a diet coke in hand lol x

    1. Happy birthday for Monday !!!! It's good to find others the same age who are going through similar things. While I love a lot of the younger moms that I have met through here - it's good to find someone who can relate a little more closely to what I am saying / going through !
Thank you for stopping by - have the best weekend !

  4. Well done on the running. I am no good at it but last year was making an effort to do a few short intervals when I was walking on the treadmill and I was amazed by how quickly I improved. Definitely something to work on this year.

    Happy New Year!

    1. When I actually get out there, more often than not I really enjoy it - so what I have said is that I won't call off a run until I have got changed and got onto the road - if I still don't want to run I can walk around the block and go home. So far I have never done that - even when I felt like I didn't want to run - once I am out there, I enjoy it too much !!!
      Have a great Friday !

  11. This year I want to learn to run, I've never enjoyed it and an ample chesticular area bouncing around no matter how good the sports bra has always put me off but I'm oh so envious of those who can run so this year I want to try.

    1. I totally get you - the boob bounce nearly did me in but then I found this fantastic bra - and I cross over the straps - and hey presto - they stay still !!! They are totally amazing - so I bought another 4 pairs !!

  16. Good luck with your running goal for the year! I'm back to work tomorrow and back into walking. I'm planning on heading back to tennis this year too, to increase my fitness further. And I'm heading back into healthy eating again - now I've reached my goal weight I don't want the old, bad habits creep in again...

    1. Good for you for already anticipating what you need to do to stop the old bad habits from creeping back. I think we have all fallen into that trap at one point in time.
Good luck with your walking - here's to many kms under your feet !

  20. I'm hoping to do some more running too this year. I got really fit last year, but then I hurt my ankle so it's been on the back burner. Maybe we should run together

    1. Injuries really suck Jess !!!!! If you want a running partner and have the Runkeeper app - we can 'run together' on there. I have found that to be really good at helping to keep me motivated to move.

  23. Happy New Year Linda! (I can't remember if I've said that before)!
I am actually practising (or trying to) mindful eating as well. I normally throw down my food at a million miles an hour, and it can't possibly be good for me! So this week I have been trying to make a conscious effort to chew slowly and really taste my food. I'm sure it will have an effect soon! Good luck with the running and hope the hamstring is ok :)

    1. Thanks Tracey - isn't it sad how we spend time preparing meals only to not enjoy them because we scoff them down so quickly in order to rush onto the next task. I am winning some meals of mindful eating and losing others - so long as I keep working at it I can't ask for more.
Hamstring was still twingeing last night - tonight is my rest night so will see how it is tomorrow. May go for a cycle this weekend instead of a run - see how we go and what the weather is like.

  24. Hello! That all sounds very wise, I have thought about myself and the blog, but must pop back to the blog to add in something else for my personal one.

Having been all swimming and no running I did some walk/jogs recently just a couple of three kms. And I could feel my knee. Am planning a 5km fun run in mid-Feb so better get slowly building up the strength. I really do prefer swimming though and am mad for the ocean swims.... but must mix it up! Must also post on exercise goals for year.

    1. I wish I loved swimming - but alas, I don't, I hate water on my face which does make swimmimg just a tad difficult !!!
Training will start again next week so that will mix things up a bit - think I need to do some other exercise and not only run - will have to come up with something to help shift these Christmas kilos !!!
Have the best weekend - so glad to hear you had such a good time and arrived home safe and sound !
