Things I Know

It's Friday, my favourite day of the working week and time to link in with Ann from Help I'm Stuck with the easiest linky of all because we all know 'stuff' !!!

Yesterday I finally lodged the building application - and within a couple of hours had two phone calls about things that we had answered in the wrong places !!!!  When the lady told me she was from GCCC I just started to laugh and there was just silence from the other side of the phone - I explained to her that I had called my husband once I had lodged the paperwork (all done online) and said that I was sure I was going to get more than a few calls about the application.  She just laughed and said that it was fine and she would help me through what she could.  About 5 mins later she called back to tell me about something else that I needed to change, so went back, changed that, PDF'd the files and then sent them through to her again.  I haven't heard back from her since then so I'm going with the fact that they are processing the application and they haven't just thrown it away !!!

It was my Mom's birthday yesterday and we had arranged to take my folks out for dinner but my Mom got ill earlier on in the week with chest pains and the shakes.  Apparently her kidneys are not behaving and giving her some trouble.  So we decided to take dinner around to their house to save her having to go out.  I am worried about her - especially because she tends to say "I'm fine" when she isn't.  I suppose at least my Dad is there to keep an eye on her.  The sooner we get them close to us the better.

Tomorrow night will see A and I at a hotel (not sure of it's name or exactly where it is but it's somewhere on the coast).  K won it as one of her prizes when she kicked 4/4 at the pre-game entertainment when the Suns played Collingwood earlier this year.  Unfortunately she wasn't able to use it before she left so A and I will be using it tomorrow night - it's one nights accommodation and buffet breakfast the next morning !!!

We will be skyping K tonight.  We didn't get to talk on Monday night (our normally weekly skype session) as she was having the best time in Washington DC.  She certainly has been out and about since she got over there.  Nine weeks into her stay she had been to eight states !!!!

I'm off to the knee guy after work today and then have a 5km run planned this evening.  Last run I didn't do any hills and managed so much better so I've made the decision to concede the hills ....... for now.  They will not beat me totally but I will just give them a miss until I am fitter and more able to tackle them.

Have the best weekend that you can !!

What do you know this week ?
Have you linked in ?
If you have, I'll be around to see
what you know this week.

My Baby Turns 22

Yesterday my baby girl turned 22.

Yesterday she booked her flights to Sydney to go to the US Consulate for her visa interview.

Yesterday she took the day off work to help a friend lay flooring in her new home (why, I'm not sure, as she hasn't been hugely helpful around the house since we moved in - maybe it's because she really doesn't know how to lay timber flooring and so is there for the company more than anything ?)

Yesterday my baby wrote the nicest post on FB and tagged me in it - it's great to know that even though sometimes she is selfish and full of attitude, she does still love us !!!!!

Yesterday made me realise that next year she will be celebrating her birthday with her other family - I hope they make it a nice day for her.

Happy Birthday for yesterday K !

You have grown into a lovely young lady who I am proud to call my daughter.  While I am going to miss you dreadfully while you are away, I know that it will be such a great experience for you and I know that you will come home with wonderful memories - things that can never be taken away from you.  Know that Dad and I love you always and stay safe in your travels because you are priceless to us.

Thankful Thursday

It's time for Thankful Thursday with Francesca from Francesca Writes Here and, although I am a little late in linking up, I still have so much to be thankful for.

This week I am thankful for :

- being able to take a day off yesterday to spend with A to celebrate him turning 50 !

- being married to someone who qualifies for a Seniors Card and any discounts that entitles us to !

- being able to have a party to celebrate his 50 years with family and friends on Saturday night.

- being able to buy in dinner for Saturday so that I don't have to stress at making dinner for 20 odd people.

I hope that you can find something to be thankful for today and if you can that you have linked in with the rest of us for Thankful Thursday !!!

Have the best week !

Pink Concert

I wasn't even going to post this week because I thought that there was no way I would have enough time to get a post written before the end of Tuesday to link in for #IBOT with Essentially Jess - but it turns out I was wrong !!!

I know I have been quiet and I want to thank those people who have been popping over to see if I have had anything to say - I haven't - for two reasons - work has been absolutely manic and in the evenings I have been spending time with A while he is home.  We also seem to have had a whole bunch of people over at various times and it seemed like ages that I was in the kitchen the whole time !!

Celebrations for the Suns win over Collingwood are now over !

The birthday celebrations are now out the way !

A's training course and 'working day when he is supposed to be off' is out the way !

Tomorrow he is having some more cancers cut out of his nose that they didn't get the last time.  Unfortunately I can't be there as I had a bank audit booked in two months ago so luckily my folks can take him and then drop him back home again.

Now to the exciting news of Pink's concert last night - a belated birthday present.

It was fantastic !  She is such a performer - so athletic and agile.  It was just lovely watching her.  I said to A that I could see how much she had matured from her early days.  She has definitely taken to motherhood so well.

I wasn't as taken with her costumes at this concert as I was at the last one. I thought that she could have done more with her costumes this time and they looked a bit like things she had just pulled out of somewhere quickly on her way to the show.  Having said that, they certainly didn't detract from her show or how absolutely fantastic she is.

The camera on my phone did not do her justice in any shots and this was the clearest I could find to use.  She is singing in the little 'step out stage' with only the guitar.

I did think that she would have sung more songs from her Truth About Love album but that is neither here nor there.

I think that all her concerts are sold out but if you get a chance to pick up a ticket from someone who has a ticket but can't go for some reason, take it with both hands - it certainly is a great way to spend an evening !

The Kin, which were her support act, were also very good. They had amazing voices but I didn't particularly like they way they ended a few of their songs - that was a little strange. But on the whole, they certainly were good to listen to for most of their songs.

I'll be back next week once A has gone back to Townsville - take care !

Happy Birthday A !!!!

Today A turns 49 - the last year of his 40's - next year I will be married to someone old enough to qualify as a senior citizen !!!!!!

How did he get so old ?  And how did I get so old, I am only 2 years younger than him ????????

The funny thing is that I don't feel old.

When I was little, I thought anyone who was 20 was old and if you were 50, well you just about had one foot in the grave !

Now that I am 3 years off being 50, it doesn't seem that old anymore !!!!

I was having a twittersation with some friends the other night and the topic of bands came up at a conversation she had at work - apparently she was 2 when the band was big !!!! And, she is terrified of turning 30 (sorry my friend if you are reading this and know I am talking about YOU !!!!) and it was all I could do not to laugh out loud (although my family are getting used to sporadic bursts of 'out loud' laughter from me as I check twitter) - I can't wait to be 50.  I think to be 50 not out would be amazing !

Maybe the fact that I have found only about 10 grey hairs (of which K has pulled 8 of them out - now I guard them and don't let her near them because I wear them as a badge of honour - strange I know !!!) helps because I don't think I look as old as I would have if I had more grey hair.

I have noticed that my body doesn't heal as quickly as it used it, it doesn't recover as quickly as it used to and it doesn't process food/drink like it used to - it is slower in many aspects but it is also more likely to take chances now than it used to be.  Why else would it have said yes to doing The Stampede - and not only doing it but thoroughly enjoying it - so much so that it has signed up for Warrior Dash in November and the 10km Stampede event next year ????

The point of this is that we can't stop the ageing process but we can embrace it and enjoy the experience.  And the saying, you are only as old as you feel is so totally true because there are days when I feel like I am 80, but then there are the days when I feel like I am 20 again.

Linking in with Jess from diaryofasahm for IBOT for the first time !

Have the best day ever and embrace the process because you can't stop it !!!
