Things I Know

It's Friday (do I hear a whole bunch of TGIF's ????  Cos there is certainly a HUGE shout of that from me !!) which means that it is time to link up with Miss Cinders for the Things I Know linky because, as MC always tells us, we all know sh*t.

And this week I know that I had a bad day on Wednesday but one e-mail turned my perception of my day around and it turned out to be a pretty cool day !

I know that I am SOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to #vvow tonight.  During yesterday I was tweeting about #vvow and how much I am looking forward to it and asked the question if it was silly or sad that I was so looking forward to it ?  I got the following reply "I was trying to explain it to Miss 6 this morning and it sounded really sad!"  To which I replied "I think maybe it is only sad if we think it is sad !!! Maybe we should choose to think of it as fun and a safe way to drink!"  That made me spend a fair bit of the afternoon (because, hey it was better than trying to finalise a budget !!)thinking about my perception of things.  At the end of the day, things are what they are, and it is only my perception that affects me.  I totally get that there are times when 'things' become over whelming - I honestly felt like that yesterday because there was nothing specific that was worrying me, but there was enough 'stuff' that made me spend a fair bit of my day, hiding behind my computer monitors, crying ! Maybe I didn't try hard enough to see the positives in the day - the sunshine outside, the healthy family that I have, the sauna that I was working in - OK that wasn't really a positive.  Or maybe I just have to accept that there are days when things feel a bit cr*ppy and that is OK too.

I know that I am looking forward to catching up with a friend on Saturday for a chat - this is my friend who makes me laugh so much that when we leave each other my stomach absolutely aches !

I know that I am looking forward to catching up with an ex-boss on Saturday night - we haven't seen each other for absolutely ages and things have changed heaps for her since we last spoke - I am sure that we will have lots to talk about.

I know that I am going to be going to visit my BIL and SIL who live just around the corner from me on Sunday morning because the Gold Coast Marathon runs past our home and I can't go out in the car but I can walk around to their place.

I know that keeping busy over the weekend is good for me.  I feel that I am starting to become a bit of a hermit - if I am not going to work and have done the grocery shopping, I don't want to go out anywhere because I am so embarrassed by my size.  I know that this is how it is for now.  I know that there is nothing more that I can do to change my weight BUT that doesn't make it any easier for me to accept.  I know that it is just a number on the scale but even if I didn't see that number every day, I would be able to tell from my clothes that my weight is not doing what it should be doing.  Cutting out sugar, wheat and dairy should not see me put on close to 30kgs in approx. 6 months.  I know that there have been times when sugar has crept back into my diet but not to the extent of 30kgs worth !! That is something that I do know for sure !!

I know that I am looking forward to a quiet day at work - with only me in the office - and plenty of time to work through budgets and end of financial year stuff !

I know that if I don't cut up the coconut rough it lasts a lot longer !

What do you know this week ?
Why not share it over at Miss Cinders ?

Thankful Thursday

Today I am linking up (albeit late in the day and nearly Friday) with Kate from katesaysstuff for Thankful Thursday.

I was thinking about this post when I was driving down from Inala back to the office today and I had a whole heap of things in my head but after the evening that I have had, I have had to change the original post about what I am thankful for - not because I am not thankful for the other stuff from earlier today, but because I am more thankful for my wonderful daughter.

I had asked her this morning if she wanted to go late night shopping tonight and she said yes even though she doesn't have any money to spend.  Winter means fewer shifts for her as a life guard at Wet n Wild so her $300 this fortnight doesn't go very far when she has to pay $110 board / phone / Suns membership / computer every week - leaving her $80 for the fortnight to put petrol in her car and not much else !!

Anyway, we went down to Robina as I wanted to go to the Lululemon shop - I was given a pair of socks on the weekend and used them during the week - they were lovely !  I wanted to look at a long sleeve top to run in as the evenings are getting a little chilly to run in a racer back top.  I found a lovely l/s top but at $89 wasn't sure that I could justify the cost.  (No doubt if A was with me we would have bought it !!!)

After that we went and had some dinner and I said to K that I wanted to maybe look at some dresses with tights and ballet flats.  She was so excited at the prospect of me buying some new clothes that weren't jeans / T-shirts / jumpers !!!  So off we went.  She picked out all sorts of items for me - some looked really good - some looked awful (or maybe they didn't look awful, I just felt they did).  I am not sure who had more fun - her or me !  Occasionally I would say something or pick something out to try on and she would just roll her eyes and laugh and I would put it back.

I tried on a dress at Forever New in a size 16 - too big.  She brought me a size 10 - I asked her if she was off her head - no ways was I fitting into that - she gave it to me and said try it on - it fitted !! I couldn't believe my eyes.  I asked her if there was a size 12 as I just felt that even though it fitted me I would have had to stand in it all day as I didn't think I would be able to sit down without showing my knickers to all and sundry !!!  They didn't have a size 12 but their store at Pacific Fair had a few size 12s !!!  We had looked at some ballet flats which were comfy but I wasn't about to buy shoes without having something to wear them with !!!

She is wearing these leggings Retro Gamer Leggingsand in I can't remember how many stores we went into, the assistants commented on them and how awesome they were and asked where she had got them from (Black Milk in case you are wondering !!).  We were walking back to the car when this guy came out from nowhere and said "I'm not crazy - I work for Michael Hill Jewellers (and showed her this pamphlet for their sale).  I just LOVE those leggings where did you get them from" - poor bugger she looked like a deer caught in the headlights she got such a fright.  Anyway she told him and while they were talking another lady from MHJ came up and asked her about them.  Certainly - they have given us a lot of enjoyment tonight !!!

Anyway, we got to Pacific Fair and I tried on the dress in a size 12 - it really did look lovely - think I need to seriously consider buying it !!!  From there we went to Runaway Bay as I had to check on something at LeGassick and we went to a store SES and I did land up getting this cutest little red and black dress and then we stopped in at Coles and I got some black tights.  K was all excited (probably more so than me) saying "So, you going to wear it to work tomorrow" and I just looked at her and smiled - said "No, I can't because I don't have any shoes PLUS there is only me and the MD in tomorrow - so not worth while wearing anything other than my jeans" - "Yeah, you're probably right."

I am thankful for my 20yo daughter who still enjoys going shopping with her Mom.

I am thankful that she feels that she can offer me fashion advice.

I am thankful that I can still tell her that while it may be fashionable, there are some items which just don't suit me or are not suitable for a 46yo Mom to be wearing !!!

I an thankful that I get to spend this time with her because I know that it won't be like this forever - at some point it will stop. (Mind you, A is the shop-a-holic in our family and he often says "Let's go shopping" when I would really prefer to stay at home and relax !!!).

I am thankful that we can share these times together - laugh together - have fun together - and, in general, just have a great time hanging out together.

I am thankful that one of the most precious gifts that I have, continues to provide me with hours of enjoyment !

Thank you K - you have grown into an amazing young lady - I am proud to have you as my daughter.

Cold Chisel Tonight !

Tonight A and I are off to see Cold Chisel - an early celebration of our anniversary on Friday.  I hope that it is as good as I am expecting it to be.

My weight is recovering nicely after a weekend with a few indulgences.  Last night I cycled 8.8km at 23.4kph.  I set off on a 12km loop but only got about 4km before my knee started aching so decided to turn for home.  It was fine after that but frustrating that I still cannot exercise like I want.

Have a fantastic day !

Love, hugs and positive energy.

Baskin & Robbins

Last night K piked on going to training so I went by myself - and I felt it !!!!  When there is only one of us to concentrate on H keeps an eagle eye as to form and what I am doing and corrects me so much more than when there are two of us to share between him. On one level I am grateful for this because it does make me more aware of how I actually perform the exercises but on another level it nearly kills me - but that is OK - I can feel this morning that I worked out last night and I like that feeling !

After I got home I cooled down and then had a shower before having some dinner.  A and I were sitting watching The Big Bang Theory (man that show makes me laugh) and I was busy trying to finish the blanket I am crocheting (because I want to get on and start the next one !) and I had a thought - wouldn't a B&R ice-cream go down really well right now ?  It was so hot and so humid after the rain all day.  I asked A if he was interested (Is the Pope a Catholic ?) and so off we went - me driving in my jarmmies (who were we likely to bump into anyway ?) because I wasn't going to get changed just to go down the road to get an ice-cream at 8.45 at night  and A doing the hop out, go in and buy and then hop in the car and off we went home.  I only had one scoop (very proud for saying Only One, Only One when I really wanted to say - Thanks Love, I'll have two scoops tonight !) and I savoured every single little morsel of it - it was delicious !  I figure I may have to go for a 10km run tonight to run it off but I thoroughly enjoyed it and do, to a certain extent, feel that life is not about complete abstinence.  I am still doing L&E and feel in control which is why I suggested having the ice-cream last night - because I knew I could say I'll only have one scoop and I knew that today I wouldn't stop at the shop and buy any extras to have at work seeing as I am alone in the office for most of the day.

Life is good !  We aren't going to the 7's rugby today - figure we have enough expenses to cover if we go ahead with the bathroom so will watch it at home on TV instead.  The sun is trying to come out this morning which is good because I dislike the gloom of rainy days but it also means that the humidity is going to go through the roof.  Tomorrow A is off on a brewery tour and I am catching up with a friend I haven't seen for ages, then I am going to have some 'Me' time - sitting and reading my book or watching some DVDs.  K and I are looking at going to see Breaking Dawn next week so that should be good.  I have heard mixed reviews about the movie so don't really know what to expect - whatever it is it will be good to spend the evening together.  I figure there aren't going to be too many more evenings together now that she is nearly 20 - it really isn't all that cool to spend the evening out with your Mom !!!!!!

Have a fantastic day and an even better weekend !

Love, hugs and positive energy.

My Attempt Not to Have a Midnight Snack

OK, technically it isn't midnight yet but it is close enough.  I went to bed angry with K for not doing the chores I asked her to do today and putting up with some cheek that a 19 yo daughter can come up with and now I can't sleep - because I am fuming - and what I really want to do is stuff my face with the junk food that A and K appear to have purchased recently - peanut M&M's, mini Oreo's, black pepper and lime chips, ched biscuits and cheese - all the really good things to eat, especially at close to midnight - when nobody is around to see how much I can stuff in my face.  Instead I am going to sit here and waffle give a recount of my day to keep me away from the food !

This is what my face might have looked like had I not blogged now !

Tonight I went to training (we missed training on Tuesday night because of the KoL concert - well worth missing training for I have to say !!!!) and instead of walking the block before going to train, I decided to run it.  Luckily it is only a 1.15km block because I am not sure I could have run for much longer and then still trained for 30-40 mins after that.  I was really pleased with running 6'12"/km although it is obviously a lot shorter than my other runs - oh how I wish I could run a 5km route at that pace !!!!!  One day !  K piked on me so I went by myself - man do I notice it when K isn't there and the trainer can concentrate on just me !!!!!  But it was good although my arms and legs did feel a little weak the rest of the night.

My arms felt like the arm on the left looks !

That makes it 4/4 and I am hoping to finish work at about 3pm tomorrow so that I can come home and have a run before A and I are off to the Gold Class Lounge at Harbourtown to see Moneyball (I think that is the name of the movie) - it is the movie about the Oakland Athletics baseball side (many years ago).  I have heard that it is a great movie (even if you aren't a baseball fan - but we are HUGE baseball fans) so looking forward to that.

Up until recently I have never really been an exercise person - I would often do it because I knew that it was good for me but I never enjoyed it.  Now I am finding that I am really enjoying it and have to make sure that I give myself a rest day on the weekend so as not to over do it.  I think that is so cool - I am exercising because I enjoy the feeling that I get from doing it not because I feel like I have to.

After training tonight, I came home and ate and showered and then we went to Australia Fair as I had recently bought a light little jacket to wear over sleeveless tops because I feel that I am at the age where I would prefer to cover up my arms rather than not.  It is so comfy and so light and I got a $10 discount voucher from Katie's so thought I would go and see what other colours they have (I have a black one - of course !!!) - anyway, the Katie's at AF didn't have any so think I will try the one at Robina tomorrow to see if they have any. After that we went to KMart to get A a luminous long sleeve shirt for work as his work ones are so hot.  We got him one of these the other day and he said that it was much cooler, so for $9 we bought him another one.  While we were there we saw some sleeveless running tops for me for $10 and he found me a pair of running 3/4 pants for $15.  I wasn't going to try them on (I absolutely loathe clothes shopping and having to try clothes on) but eventually I did and we landed up buying them.  I used to run in some pants that I bought from Target and they were good (at least that is what I thought) until we went on a Nike shopping expedition a few weeks/months - can't remember when - ago, and I bought a pair of their 3/4 running pants - $40 marked down from $50 as we got discount for buying 3 pairs of running shoes and a whole heap of clothes between us.  Man, they are so comfortable, I land up washing nearly every night just so that they can get washed and be dry, ready for me to use the next night !!!!!!  So will try the new pants and tops out tomorrow night unless A finishes work early too in which case we will probably go for a cycle and I won't get to try them out until next week ! (Tried to find some pics on the KMart website but they don't have any pics of women's clothing !!!)

This is the top that I want to buy another one of from Katies

On that note I am off to bed (again) - hopefully I will get to sleep this time.  Thank you for making it possible for me NOT to eat anything !

Have a fantastic Friday !

Love, hugs and positive energy.

Some Losses !

I stepped on the scale this morning so wishing, hoping, really really expecting to be in the 70's but I wasn't - I was only down 0.1kg from last week.  I was disappointed but A suggested that I measure myself even though I don't feel like my clothes are getting looser at all.  I wasn't keen to measure myself because my clothes aren't any looser on me but I did.  What a LOVELY surprise - I have lost 21cm in 6 weeks !!!!!  I suppose I can't be upset or disappointed with THAT !!!

The only thing is that I have lost 17cm above my hips and only 4cm from my hips down. I never really look at my top - only how my pants fit and clearly they aren't fitting any differently because I have only lost 2cm on my hips, and 1cm on each of my calves and nothing on my thighs.  I have been thinking about it since I measured myself and when I think back, I am sure that this is how I have lost weight previously.  I start losing from my top which is where I am not fussed about and then eventually it starts to move from my lower half which is where I really want it to move from.

Last night A and I went for a cycle - into a really strong head wind - and we cycled 13.5kms at an average a smidge under 20kph, which, given the conditions, I was really happy with.  The thing that really annoys me (well annoys probably isn't the right word but I can't think of another word right now because there is too much noise around the office !!!!!!) is that so often we cycle into a head wind when we leave home (in anticipation of cycling with the wind on our way home) except that when we 'turn', the wind either drops, or changes direction and we cycle in the wind again.  It is a good work out for my legs but sometimes it does make them really tired !!!!! Anyhoo, what I am hoping is that if I can mix up the running, cycling and training the weight will HAVE to come off eventually.

My bike is plain old silver - not pretty pink like this one !!

My eating is spot on, I am now doing L&E 7 days per week without any extra snacks or meals of any kind.  What I need to concentrate on (and it won't be today because I am on my way to Richlands to sort out something with a new system they are wanting to put in) is drinking more water.  I am trying to drink at least 1L of water before I have any soft drinks - not always easy because I LOATHE water with an absolute passion and the only water I will drink is filtered water. (Reminder to self - bring new water filter to work as the one at work is shot !)

On that note, while I still didn't make the 70's this week, I am one happy little 'not so large as I was last week' lady !

Kings of Leon

What a great concert !!!!  We had an absolutely fantastic evening - on the way home K said that she wasn't that excited about going and was thinking "Well that is $90 I've wasted" but she thoroughly enjoyed the show - just like me !  I don't think that A enjoyed it quite as much but that is how it normally goes - he comes with to drive and keep me company if K doesn't come with !!!

I had a great run last night before we left to go up to the concert - 3.34km at 6"45"/km - I was VERY happy with that time !!!  Tonight I think I am going to cycle instead of run - just to mix it up a little.

Feeling on top of the world today - happy hump day everyone !

Another Great Day !

Yesterday morning I went for the run I said I was going to do making it 6/7 - I must have cut a few corners as the normal route was only 3.25kms but I ran it at 6'50"/km which is a fair bit faster than that 7'09"/km that I ran on Friday evening so have to be happy with that.  A came with me on the bike again which was really nice.

Then it was time for the Abonne facial and make-up demo - skin care products feel really good - not so sure I like their make-up range.

A picked me up and it was time to hit the bathroom and tile showrooms and, after lots of looking and talking and trying things out - we brought some sample tiles home and, depending on the price that someone A used to deal with can get what we need, we might be able to do the bathroom reno AND go to Canada for our 25th instead of just sitting on the floor admiring our new bathroom for our 25th !!!!!  I am very excited to have worked out that we might be able to do both.

We got home from there and spent some time in the bathroom checking tiles out and discussing how we could do things with feature tiles and new tapware etc, and then took a load of stuff to the tip before coming home and getting the bikes out and going for a cycle.  It was really good to get back on the saddle again - 12kms at 20.5kph into a fairly strong head wind for more than half the way - how come it always seems to be that we start off into a head wind and then when we turn around either the wind turns / dies down or we move into a road that is more sheltered and we get no assistance from the wind when we are cycling in the other direction ????????

We spoke about going out somewhere for dinner - like the local bowling club - but they don't have the healthiest food on offer so decided to have L&E at home and just watch some TV.

Today I HAVE to do A's quarterly BAS return, then my Dad's tax return and then my folks are coming over for dinner as it is my Mom's birthday - so a busy day ahead of me and a rest day from exercise as the cycle last night took my exercise to 7/7 - YAY - I beat my goal of 5/7 exercise sessions for the week.

Have a great Sunday !

Great Run !

Had a great run last night - the middle 2.2kms were run with no walks at all - WOOHOO !!!  Great news, I only walked 3 short lamp posts in the whole 3.4kms.  My time was unmonitored as I got 800m into the run when I realised that I hadn't pushed my watch twice to get it started !!!!  A was on the bike next to me (he has a dicky knee and so can't run) and he said that we were 800m from home - so all in all the run was my 3.4 route but I don't know the exact time - annoying but what can I do (apart from remember to switch my watch on properly you ask ??????)  Not sure if I will be running later this morning - A was talking about getting up early to do a tip run (no, not running to the tip, taking all the cr*p lying around the place to the tip !!!) so if he is up and moving I will get up and run.  Then home to shower and change, off for a mini facial with a client who is becoming an Arbonne distributor, then time to hit the bathroom showrooms and tile places so that we can do a costing for the bathroom and make a decision one way or the other - are we going to do the bathroom reno and maybe have to spend our 25th wedding anniversary sitting in the bathroom or do we maybe leave it for now and go to Canada instead !  Which would you rather do ?

Last night we went to see Warrior - what a great movie !  A bit cliched at times but I really enjoyed it - the one thing that I would have liked was maybe a little less fighting but that is purely for selfish reasons - I hate seeing people fight !!!!!  Other than a little too much fighting - I loved the story and the passion of the guys.  Thank you Lite and Easy for the movie tickets - so glad I waited until the last day to use them otherwise we wouldn't have seen the movie which only opened yesterday.

My food yesterday wasn't that fantastic - my boss and I went out to our factory at Yatala and got back only to find that neither of us had keys to get back into the office so we went to Subway to wait for someone to bring us keys.  I said I would just have a drink but he bought a foot long and gave me half and after protesting for about 5 mins I shut up and ate it.  Mistake Hiccup # 1 - I should have stuck to my guns and told him to take it home if he didn't want to eat it himself.

Hiccup #2 - went to Robina to get the tickets for the movie as I knew it was going to be tight getting home, going for a run and then getting down to the movies and my boss asked me to pick up something for him while I was there - not difficult to do except that I didn't know where the shop was and so by the time I had gone to information and then got to the shop - had to go past The Cookie Man and landed up getting two brandy snaps and two chocolate fairies - man I enjoyed them !!!  But then .........

Hiccup #3 - went past some bakery with snail hazelnuts and before I knew it - I had bought one and finished eating it before I realised that I had done that - mindless eating at it's best.  I get very disappointed with myself when I do this as I have tried really hard the past 4 weeks not to eat mindlessly - clearly I have to try harder with this lesson.

Hiccup # 4- sharing a packet of wine gums with A at the movies - I could have done so much better than wine gums !!!

Hiccup #5 (bet you are wondering just how many mistakes hiccups I can have in one day !!!!) - after the movie A said - would you like a milkshake - yes great idea !!!!  So McD drive through here we come - not only did I have a milkshake but I had a Chocolate Sensations with Oreos !!!  Again - gee I enjoyed it BUT I DIDN'T NEED HICCUPS 1, 2, 3, 4 OR 5 in my life.

Even if A doesn't do a tip run, after writing this all down - I need HAVE to go for a run so on that note I am out of here !!!!

Have an absolutely fantastic Saturday - anything exciting planned ?

Can You Help ?

On Wednesday night I went for a run.  And I enjoyed it.  I ran more than I have run recently in terms of only walking 6 short lamp posts.  One good thing is that I worked out why my Nike+ tracker wasn't uploading anymore - we hadn't downloaded the program onto the new hard drive that we had installed and it couldn't read the old hard drive that is still in there (or something like that - I have no idea what is going on with it when A is explaining - I just want to switch it on and have it work be nice to me and do what I ask of it !)
This is what my Nike+ Sportband looks like - the little red and white thingie goes into my shoes
the watch goes on my arm and the USB thingie is what I take out of the band to upload the data
onto the computer.  The low battery that I was worried about the other day, is, in fact, not an issue - leave the USB
plugged into the computer overnight and it is all charged up and ready to go again !!!!

So my question is this - is it better to run more and walk less but at a slower overall pace or run less and walk more at a quicker pace ?  These are my times from the run I did on Monday morning and Wednesday evening :
Monday 3.34kms - 22'50" at 6'50"/km and 277 cal
Wednesday 4.35kms - 30'36" at 7'01"/km and 361 cal

I felt really good running last night but have to say that I wondered what people thought when if they saw me as they drove past.  Did anyone look at the porky fat curvaceous lady shuffling jogging running down the road and think "Man, she really shouldn't be out there subjecting us to that sight" or did someone I know drive past and think "Gee - there is L - she looks like she is doing really well running head first in that gale force really strong head wind".  Should I even care about what other people think of me when I am exercising or should I just say "Hey, you know what - at least I am doing something !".  Of course you always get those dick knuckleheads who think it is soooooooooooooooo funny to drive up really close to you and then hoot - he was lucky that he was driving so fast because my ninja kick would have broken his window if he had been closer !!!

I love it when I am in the groove with exercising - I just wish I could get up in the mornings and get it done and out the way for the day.  Maybe once I get take control of my sleeping habits - that will be a goal of mine.  Wake up at 5am every week day so that I can go running.  Having said that, now that my Nike+ thingie is working, it is more motivating to get out running no matter what time of the day because I love getting home and going straight to the computer to upload my time (OK when I have had a not so good run, I am not such an eager beaver to upload the data !!!) - the funny thing with this is that I am probably the least competitive person that I know so why the eagerness to see my time ! I have no idea.

I made my 5/7 exercise days this week - YAY because I think this will be the first time I make it (for whatever reasons excuses I haven't made it before !!!)

Do you have a set exercise routine or do you just do whatever you feel like it when you feel like it ?

Love, hugs and positive energy !

I Am So Happy ....

This morning I had to go to the dr and so I only had to leave home at about 8am instead of 7am to get to work as I normally do.  (Sorry - going to the dr didn't make me happy - the next bit of the story made me happy !!!).  Anyway, I set my alarm for 7am instead of the normal 6am - figured I could sleep an extra hour seeing as I was going to leave an hour later - but was awake at about 6.20 so decided to get up and go for a run (very excited because now I can actually track how far and how fast I am running IF I push the right bloody button !!!) due to the fact that we are off to look at dishwashers straight after work and then tonight I promised my Dad I would do his tax return so had been wondering when I was going to get a chance to run.

So I got out there and ran - felt better than I did last week - got home and COULDN'T BLOODY UPLOAD MY RUN !!!!  OK - I was happy to have been running but extremely unhappy at not being able to upload the information.  Unfortantely I didn't have time to fiddle around with it before I left for work so will have to have a look at it this evening when I get home.

I am so happy that I went running this morning - 1/7 down and planning on making it 5/7 by the end of Friday.

Have the best week ever !

Love, hugs and positive energy.
