Today is a New Day

Today is a new day.  Today is Friday which means that it is Team Friday with Stacey-Lee at Get On With It Already, Things I Know with Miss Cinders at Saturday Morning Ogre Mum and FYBF with Grace at With Some Grace - why not join in with any of these lovely ladies and find some new and exciting blogs to read ?

Today I know that I haven't been able to finish either of the challenges for November for #bacnov3030challenge or #operationMOVE - not for want of trying - but because my body betrayed needs to heal itself.

Today I know that I am learning to love and accept myself more and more each day -  for who I am and how I look.

Today I know that eating a good healthy range of foods means that I have more energy to sit on the couch doing nothing but let my body heal and don't suffer from the 3pm slumps anymore.

Today I know that cutting sugar, wheat and dairy out of what I eat makes me feel so good. (Does this mean I will never eat these foods again ?  No, but it does mean that I have learned that when I eat these foods I don't feel that great and so eating them on special occasions is allowed, even encouraged, provided I can deal with how I feel afterwards !!!!)

Today I know that tomorrow I have my 5th appointment with the osteo in 2 weeks and I have to stay confident that he can help me.

Today I know that even though my 'baby' is 20 yo, she still wants her Mom when she is sick.

Today I know that our car just clocked over 200,000kms and we are probably going to have to start looking for a new one.

Today I know that last night I went to a camera class and learned even more about my camera - I am planning to have some more play dates with it this weekend (especially as A is working on Sunday).

Today I know that I need to be more diligent with my gratitude journal - it is a journal that I NEED to make the time to 'write' in every day because EVERY DAY there IS a list of things that I am grateful for.

What do you know today ?
How are you preparing your body for the Christmas on-slaught ?

Meeting a Friend .... and Other Things

On Friday night I was going to have a rest night - K had said that we could do a big cycle on Saturday early evening when she got home from work.  A few minutes later A and K were having a small altercation that seemed to go on for a while even though it was so silly so I went to my room to read.  Read for a while and then realised that I really needed to run it out and not lie there stewing over their differences.  Got changed, got my phone and off I set.  6.9km later I was home again - SO pleased that I had run - with a good time as I had only walked about 3 or 4 times and not for very long each time.  Nothing like a run to clear my mind.

Unfortunately when I got back I saw a tweet from @coloursofsunset saying that there was a 5km timed run on Saturday morning at Main Beach.  I said I would see how my legs felt in the morning and maybe join her and her husband.  I woke up on Saturday morning - they felt too tight to run so we got up and got dressed and went down anyway.  I watched her come in and beofre we left A said I should go and say hullo - trouble is that I am really shy.  Anyway, he nudged me along and said he would go and get the car while I said hullo - so off I went.  I am so pleased I did - she is such a lovely lady.  I am just sorry that A had to go to work and so we couldn't talk for longer.  While we were talking, two ladies from Lululemon came up and gave A a choice of two running shirts and offered her husband a pair of shorts.  We talked for a while and then A told them I ran as well and they gave me a pair of socks - can't wait to try them out tomorrow night - they look really comfy.

I popped in to see my folks yesterday - as always, we seem to find things to laugh about.  I found this picture taken last Easter when we went to Stanthorpe for the day.  Thank goodness, I am no longer this big !!!!!

No cycling last night - K got home from work and then sat on the computer until about 6.30pm before saying "Are we going to cycle?" - I said no because our lights aren't working properly.  A and I cycled this morning - down to Sunningdale Bridge then back up to Paradise Point before coming home.  My legs felt like lead for the first 5km - from 5-17km my legs felt great - I felt like I could have cycled forever - 18-22km - I don't know how I managed to keep my legs turning over - maybe the thought of falling off my bike kept them going.  I couldn't even stop as I wouldn't have been able to walk those last kms home !!!!!  But it was all good - so glad that I did it - the day was great - no wind, a little cool but OK once we got going.

Went to My Fit Fridge to see their meals and bought a couple to try out - mainly because with A going away and only K and I at home, I really can't be bothered cooking meals for just the two of us.  Plus I have a couple of clients booked this week and if I am going to exercise as well, I need to have decent meals planned otherwise I will land up eating toast every night.

Well another weekend nearly at an end - and another work week about to begin.  I said to Al when we were on our way home today - even though we don't know what is happening with his job - life is good I am extremely fortunate to have such an amazing family, the support and friendship of some amaxing people, my health and motivation to exercise and get fit - I LOVE LIFE right now !

Have the best week ever !

Things I Love

The other day I was driving home from work and as I turned into our cul-de-sac I slowed right down because there were a heap of children on their bikes and scooters and skateboards in our road - all playing together - the older ones looking out for the younger ones (I hope !) and it reminded me of where I lived when we grew up.  While it was in a different country, when we were little we also lived in a cul-de-sac - we lived about half way down the hill and the cul-de-sac was at the bottom of the hill.  We spent so many hours riding our bikes up and down the hill, playing hop scotch and sitting on skateboards down the hill (well I did anyway because I was a ninny and thought I would fall off if I stood on the skateboard !!).  We had so much fun there and would all skadaddle to the side of the road when a car came down and either turned in the circle or went into a drive way.  Everyone knew everyone and while there was the occasional fight between the boys, we all got on really well even though there was a wide range of ages.

When we first moved into the neighbourhood, we were the second family with a child.  Our neighbours had a daughter who was about 3 yo, K was nearly 8 and the rest were people who had retired and were waiting for God or waiting to go into a retirement home.  Most of them have now moved on (either to God or the retirement home) and we have a lot of younger families with children who have moved in - I LOVE seeing children outside playing instead of being cooped up inside in front of the TV or computer or similar.

YAY and a huge round of applause to those parents who encourage their children to play outside !

This weekend I went walking again - it has been far too long since I walked - for lots of reasons - not wanting to walk by myself, not having time, not being home because I was at the hospital - really all just excuses for being lazy and not just getting out there and DOING IT !  I walked on Saturday morning from about 9.30 and thought it would be better to walk earlier in the day before it got so hot.  I was planning on walking at about 8am on Sunday but K woke up and we spent a great 90 mins talking and laughing and fooling around and so it was after 9.30 by the time I got out the door - I wouldn't give up those 90 mins to walk earlier for anything.  I treasure every minute that I get to spend with her - most especially when she is in such a great mood !!!!!!

While I walked on Saturday and Sunday, I recalled how I used to run - before the injury - and I ran little bits BUT my knee is still dodgy and not ready for me to run on.  I HATE that I can't run.  I HATE that for so many years I never ran because I thought I couldn't, instead of just getting out there and doing it because I could.  Nobody ever told me I couldn't except myself and now I am telling myself I can and my knee is bloody talking back saying it can't !!  It's not fair.  But that is life I guess and I will just have to deal with it !

Well these are the two things this week I have realised I really love.

Things I Love or Which Make Me Happy !

I know that some of these are corny but it doesn't make them any less true :

I LOVE ............

1. - A with all my heart, body and soul. He is my best friend, my husband and my soul mate.

2. - K and would do anything to protect her from the big bad world BUT she is going to have to learn to deal with life herself and make her way in the big bad world with our love and support - I can't keep her wrapped up in cotton wool forever !

3. - the smell of grass that has just been cut.

4. - an ice-cold cold drink (but not cold water !)

5. - the taste of ice-cream as it slides down my throat - especially if it is Baskin & Robbins ice-cream !

6. - getting mail - snail mail or e-mail.

7. - trying on clothes and having to go back to get a smaller size.

8. - finding blogs that make me laugh.

9. - listening to children laugh from their bellies and remembering how K used to do that when she was little.

10. - watching an exciting game of baseball, AFL, league, 20/20 cricket or ODI.

11. - catching up with friends and laughing big belly laughs myself.

12. - getting on the scales and seeing the numbers going down.

13. - walking into a perfume shop.

14. - exercising and feeling those endorphins kick in.

15. - training for a 50km bike ride and the sense of pride and achievement when I completed said ride.

16. - living in a street with lovely neighbours who meet in the road and sit in driveways talking and drinking until the small hours of the morning.

17. - coming home to the unconditional love of two dogs (even though I am not an animal person).

18. - having had eye surgery so that I am no longer this close to being classified as legally blind.

19. - working for a company where the bosses really appreciate my contribution to the business.

20. - waking up on Saturday (or Sunday), thinking it is Friday, and then realising it is Saturday and I don't have to get up and dash off to work - I only need to get up to go exercising or grocery shopping or paying bills or doing the laundry or chores around the house!

21. - finding a new author whose books I enjoy reading.

22. - getting an 'I love you' phone call out of the blue.

23. - finding $5 in a pocket (would love it to be $500 but unless I had the $500 to start with, I am not likely to find $500 in a pocket and I probably would have missed the $500 to start with anyway !!)

24. - newly painted toe nails (used to love painted finger nails until I qualified as a reflexologist and massage therapist and I can't have long nails anymore - not unless I want to stab people !!)

25. - fresh flowers in our home and the smell of incense burning, cleansing the energy around us.

Have a fantabulous weekend and take care. Love, hugs and positive energy !
