Today I am linking in with Dorothy from Singular Insanity for Things I Know because I know that I like linking in with other bloggers.
Let me start by acknowledging that I am not good at not doing something that I have planned to do so when I hurt my back moving furniture at work yesterday, I was not happy. It wasn't sore straight away but rather twingeing by the time I left work. By the time I got home it was aching and really really sore after I had given a client a treatment. An Epsom salts bath and a wheat pack did little to relieve the agony. This morning I went to the osteo who has helped but it is still aching - not unusual after a treatment. He has suggested cutting right back on my training until it has cleared up completely - not happy Jan !!! I have this planned schedule for my training and this is stuffing it up completely.
I know I have to get my head in the right place - just because I won't be doing nearly 190kms of training does not mean I won't be able to run the race. Just because I am missing the last 8 days of what I planned to run does not mean I won't be able to run the race. Chances are if I do try to train over the next couple of days, I won't be able to run the race because I will have stuffed my back up completely. I have to get my head in the right space so that I don't do this. I don't want to jeopardise my chances of running on Saturday so I need to get my head right.
I promise to stop going on about my running once next Saturday has come and gone !!!
As an aside, I saw that I have had 7,000 page views on my blog - who would have thought that there would be that many people interested in reading what I have to say - certainly not me !!!
Have the best weekend ever !
TFTD : Some days are diamond and some days are coal. However, every day is a golden opportunity to learn, demonstrate gratefulness, and positively impact the world around you.
7000 page views! Wow, that's massive! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you have to follow advice and listen to your body. You know you best.
And you're absolutely right, just because you don't train this week, doesn't mean you can't run the race. You've obviously been doing a lot of training, and it just might be enough!
Trust yourself! And good luck :)
Thanks Tracey - I went for a 5km run and completed it at a really good pace - not what my legs were telling me !!! So I am trusting that I have done enough and will give it my best shot on Saturday.
DeleteHave a great week !

Woo hooo 7000 page views thats awesome!! I would hold off on the training too, then you should be able to do the race xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sammy - it has never been about the numbers - just happened to see that the other day before starting my post - strange to think that that many people may have been interested in anything I had to say !!!
DeleteI did a 5km run this morning and while it wasn't fantastic - it wasn't as bad as I thought it could have been. Think I will be going back to the osteo tomorrow for some dry needling as there is still a niggle there.
Hopefully what I have done is enough - have a great week.

Sorry to hear about the sore back, but sounds like you are doing the right thing. I have been jogging a bit, trying to work up slowly as I get sore knees. But yesterday I did 15 mins on the treadmill and then ran up a big, steep hill and today the knee is complaining vigorously. I might have to stick with the stepper and walking and swimming... bugger, bugger, but like you just have to get my head around it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Seana - have you tried using a knee guard. After I had the knee injury last year, when I started exercising again with the correct shoes, I used a knee guard and it has made a huge difference to how my knees feel when I am finished. Sometimes they are still sore but on the whole they are not nearly as bad as they used to be.
DeleteHave a great week and take care !

Make sure you rest that back. You're right, overdoing it now will mean paying for it later.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 7000 page views! And thanks for linking up :-)
Thanks Dorothy - I have been very good the weekend with resting my back and only went for a 5km run this morning. There is still a bit of a niggle which I think some dry needling tomorrow will sort out. I was surprised at the 7,000 views - never thought that there would be that many people likely to read what I have to say - for me it isn't about the numbers, it is more of a cathartic exercise of getting out what is inside and really just documenting what I have done / am doing.
DeleteHave a great week and keep up the packing !

Hi Me. Never stop going on about running :)
ReplyDeleteResting now and you'll be ready for the race!
[Fitness, Health and Happiness]
Thanks Jill - really appreciate the advice of someone who is so knowledgeable about running. Was going to do a 5km run tonight - weather is totally miserable - raining, cold and windy. I called my Dad who, in my opinion, is the font of all knowledge regarding running having done 10 x 90km races and 2 x 100 miler races - and he said to rest up and do a short run tomorrow night if the weather has improved - I listened to him tonight !!!!!
DeleteAm trying to decide what race to enter once this one is over - have entered The Stampede which is more of an obstacle course - should be interesting - waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone !
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

Congrats on 7K!
